Police arrest suspects over murder of driver in Rivers


Personnel of Rivers State Police Command have have arrested four persons alleged to have conspired to abduct and murder a commuter identified as Onyekachi Obioma Chukwuagụ.

The deceased was reportedly murdered in Rumuodogo 1 Community of Emohua Local government area axis of the East/West Road.

Obichi Ngita, aged 20, Chisom Honest aged 20, Young Chitu aged 21 and Omens Woke aged 23 had on Tuesday, 22nd March, 2022, while pretending to be regular passengers, boarded the victim’s vehicle. However, when they got to a quiet part of the route, they abducted the victim and abandoned the vehicle by the roadside.

The police Command said that upon the receipt of the complaint, it swiftly mobilized men to the scene where they cordoned off the area and commenced an intensive search resulting in the arrest of Chisom Honest, who led operatives to the rest of the gang, and the location of the victim’s corpse.

The command further said that the suspects claimed they murdered the victim, using a machete, for refusing to cooperate with them. It added that efforts are in top gear to arrest other fleeing suspects fingered in the murder so as to conclude the investigations.

Friday Eboka, the state Commissioner of Police, while condoling the family of the deceased over the loss, assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation in line with his commitment to the cause of justice.
