Chinyere Igwe, the House of Representatives member representing Port Harcourt constituency has been arrested by police in Rivers State for allegedly being in possession of $500,000.
Igwe, an associate of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has been in a running political battle with governor Nyesom Wike who is opposed to the Atiku’s candidacy.
A building housing Wish FM and Atlantic Television Network belonging to Mr Igwe was attacked earlier in the week with dynamites.
Gunshots were also fired into Mr Igwe’s office in what the station manager, Ngozi Vivien described as an assassination attempt on the politician.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Spokeswoman of the the Rivers State Police Command, while confirming the development urged all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.

Police sources said Igwe was arrested around 5 am on Friday along Aba road.
The sources alleged that the foreign currency found in Mr Igwe’s possession was for vote-buying.
