A non-governmental organization known as Environmental Friendly Initiative Association has come out to mock the Rivers State Government for sharing milk cups of rice to the flood victims in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
The NGO that played active role in addressing the challenges associated with the flood said it was appalling to see a family of seven being given milk cups of rice and a sachet pack of noodles.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Ikechukwu Ojoba told our correspondent that what the victims lost to the flood is much more than what the state government brought for them as palliatives.
“Some victims lost their farmlands with crops and plantations worth hundreds of thousands.
“As we carried out the flood aftermath environmental impact assessment, we saw so many living buildings badly destroyed by the flood.
“How can someone give a milk cup of rice and a sachet pack of noodles to a family of seven, palliatives?
“What came from the government as a palliative to the victims was nothing but a show of disrespect for the victims.”
“I am not telling you what they told me, we were there all through the flood period, trying to help mitigate the impact of the flood.
“It was appalling to see the number of raw food items that government officials were giving to flood victims as palliatives,” he said.
The NGO further called on the government and other well-meaning Nigerians to come to the accommodation aid of the flood victims especially those whose residential houses were destroyed by the flood.
