Over 300 persons from Elekahia Community in Port Harcourt City’s local government area of Rivers State have benefited from a free medical outreach and distribution of relief items organized by Lions Club International, Region 10 District 404 A2.
The free medical outreach catered for various health checks, including blood pressure, diabetes, sugar levels, and body mass index, among others. Additionally, palliatives such as rice, noodles, bread, and other staples were distributed to both adults and children in the community.
Speaking at the program, the Chairman, of Region 10 District 404 A2, of the Lions Club International, (Lion) Dr. Prince Nwosa, said the initiative was the organization’s way of alleviating the plights of the people and promoting their overall well-being.
He emphasized that Lions International is an association of Lions clubs worldwide, founded in 1917, with a mantra of “wherever there is a need, there is a lion.” The organization prioritizes meeting people’s needs, especially in areas such as hunger and disaster relief, diabetes awareness, and community development.
“Every year, we embark on projects such as those for disaster and hunger relief, and diabetes awareness, among others. Wherever there is a problem, we try to be there to help the needy. That’s what we do in every country of the world.” said the Chairman.
Beneficiaries of the program commended the organization for the outreach, noting that the assistance would go a long way. The group also held a business workshop and strategy training, themed “Strategies for Accelerating Small Business in the Real World,” where keynote speaker (Lion) Elder Nsikan Bassey emphasized strategies to grow SMEs.
It bears mentioning that the Lions Club International Region 10 District 404 A2 comprises five clubs: Port Harcourt New Garden City Lions Club, Port Harcourt Golden Lions Club, Port Harcourt Platinum Lions Club, Port Harcourt Treasure Base Lions Club, and Port Harcourt Omega Lions Club.
