As the strike embarked by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria enters its second week, workers have pledged not to relent until their demands are met.
Our correspondent who visited the State and Federal High Courts, as well as Appeal and Industrial Courts in Port Harcourt on Monday, reports that all entrances to the Courts were mounted by JUSUN Action Committee members, monitoring compliance.
In an interview with our correspondent, State Chairman Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Comrade Anthony Wachukwu, emphasized that JUSUN Staff as pillars of the Judiciary should be properly taken care of.
He said JUSUN National has imposed a fine on any State that flouts the strike action while urging all members to continue to stay at home, as the State does not intend to disobey the orders.
“Even Judges at the Supreme and Federal High Courts and all the courts have decided to resume when we JUSUN staff resume because they can not turn on the generators, carry or sort out files nor call cases in court, they can not work without the judiciary workers.
“I have always echoed it that judiciary workers in Rivers State should be taken care of because we do lots work, JUSUN Staff are the foundation of the Judiciary system. Now we are on strike, every activity is paralysed.
“We JUSUN workers will never be tired until the national direct us to return back to work, then we obey. Right now there is a fine to be paid by any state that flouts the strike order, which Rivers State do not have such an amount of money”
Comrade Wachukwu explained that the JUSUN strike has nothing to do with the Rivers State government as they are only obeying National orders.
“This strike action is not between the JUSUN Rivers State branch and the Rivers State government, nobody should misinterpret it and begin to think on how to blacklist or plan evil against any Judiciary Staff, we are only obeying National directives”
