The national headquarters of the umbrella body of the ninety-one registered political parties in Nigeria, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has directed its Rivers and Cross Rivers chapters to withdraw the adoption of Governor Nyesom Wike and Ben Ayade.
The body also frowned at the recent adoption of the gubernatorial candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by its chapters in Rivers and Cross River states; and has directed the affected chapters to withdraw such adoption in two days or face sanctions.
Recall that IPAC, on Friday, endorses governor Wike for another term in office.
In a reaction by the Secretary of its Media Committee, Akinloye Oyeniyi on behalf of the National Chairman, High Chief Peter Ameh, the Council once again warned its state chapters to desist from this illegality which it said is against its Code of Conduct and political morality.
Oyeniyi in his words said “we have gotten the reports from Rivers and Cross River about the adoption of certain governorship candidates by our chapters there. But I can tell you like we did in Ogun and Lagos, the Council strongly condemned these adoptions and will not only mandate these erring chapters to retrieve the illegality but face disciplinary committee to be set up to look into the matter as soon as possible.”
The Council further said its mandate is to house all the registered political parties and their candidates and never to have a preferred party or candidate in any election to be contested by its members. It also implored all political stakeholders and voters not to see the coming polls as do or die, vote for candidates of their choices and uphold peace althrough the election period.
