A group for the development of Oyigbo Ethnic nationality has appealed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to include Oyigbo local government area in the Port Harcourt ring road project.
Leader of the group Victor Opute appealed in an interview with our Correspondent, said Oyigbo LGA is mapped out as part of the greater Port Harcourt City development authority area.
According to him, including the LGA in the ring road project will help mitigate further flood issues in the area.
“It will be unfair for anyone to suggest that Oyigbo LGA should not be added to the Port Harcourt City ring road project that Rivers State government is embarking on.
“Our internal Roads should be fixed to abate avoidable flood in Oyigbo, primarily through the ring road project. We are appealing to the Rivers State government and every agency involved in the ring road project to include Oyigbo LGA because the flood ravage in the urban city centre results from the total deficit in the internal road structures.
“The roads in Oyigbo urban street areas should have drainage connected to the Imo river canal, and the issue of flood in the LGA will become a thing of the past”.
Opute explained further that Oyigbo had contributed an enormous quota for the economic gains for Rivers State and Nigeria at large through the oil and gas and electric power revenue generated in the area.
