It was bloody last Saturday within the Abuloma axis of Port Harcourt as heavily armed cultists invaded the venue of the just concluded IYC Eastern Zone election and shot directly at the election participants.

The motive of the cultists was to either mar the election or use violence to rig the election in favour of one of the chairmanship position contestant who is said to be loyal to the politicians who do not mean well for the sitting Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

It was reliably confirmed that the shooting that rocked the election, killed several persons and left scores of persons seriously wounded.

The election was reportedly successful amidst violence and Comrade Prince Datolu Sukubo was declared the winner and was immediately sworn in as the duly elected chairman of IYC Eastern Zone.

Not being happy with the violence that characterized the election, the Coordinator of the Citizenship Rights Advocacy Initiative (CRAI), Comrade Sobebo Princewill condemned the violence in strong terms, saying that election bloodshed is unacceptable.

The coordinator, said: “We condemn in its totality, the violence that ensued the recent IYC Eastern Zone election in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

“Our state and country are sick and tired of violent elections and we therefore call on all relevant authorities and stakeholders to come together and put an end to election violence in our dear state and country.”

“Enough is enough,” the group said as it also urged the state government as well as the security agencies to leave no stone unturned, insisting that the perpetrators of the violence should be arrested, prosecuted, and brought to justice.

“The group also sympathized with the families of the election victims and warned politicians to stop forthwith, the notion of introducing violence for the sake of winning the election.
