Group asks Buhari to inaugurate NDDC board without delay

Citizens Communication and Advocacy Centre, a civil society organisation, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to inaugurate the NDDC board.

The centre’s executive director, Charles Ibiang, and other civil society groups made the demand at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja.

The executive director also commended Mr Buhari’s appointment of Samuel Ogbuku as the NDDC’s managing director.

Mr Ibiang described Mr Ogbuku as “a seasoned administrator, passionate Niger Delta compatriot and a good manager of men and resources in the person of Ogbuku” and the right choice to head the commission.

He reminded the president that it is a challenging time for the Niger Delta and the NDDC and urged Mr Buhari to inaugurate the NDDC board without delay.

“Therefore, having a personality with a requisite knowledge, experience and broad mind, who understands the issues in the region, cannot be over-emphasised,” Mr Ibiang stated. “The NDDC has remained without a governing board for a very long time.”

He said there was nothing wrong with the inauguration of a board and a sustainable structure for efficient service delivery by the commission.

Mr Ibiang called on the Niger Delta people to allow peace to reign and support Mr Ogbuku and Lauretta Onochie for the board and management to achieve the desired efficiency in NDDC.
