Some residents of Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State are now passing their nights on public roads due to flooding in their area.

Over 17 buildings had been submerged by flooding in Jk 2 Community of the LGA with farm crops badly affected too.

The secretary of the community, Wisdom Owolo told our correspondent that since the flood started, no government official from federal, state or local has visited his community to know how they are coping with the flood.

He said, “This is perennial flood that occurs every year and the government used to provide internally displaced person’s camps for us but this year, none has been provided for us.

“Those affected by the flood who do not have an alternative place to relocate to, are now sleeping on public roads at nights with their foams and mattresses.

“The flood is still coming and if nothing is done fast to stop it, my entire community might be engulfed by it.

“We are appealing to relevant authorities to find lasting solution to the yearly flooding in my community because we are tired of running helter skelter every year.”

It could be recalled that similar situation is going on in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of the state where several communities had been sacked by flooding.
