The Rivers State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria says politicians have failed Nigerians.
In an Easter message made available to our correspondent, the state CAN chairman, Apostle Stanley Dimkpa blamed the high rate of insecurity and poverty bedevilling the country on the self-centered Leadership style of politicians.
It read in parts, “our country is known among the poorest country in the world with daily news of wanton killings, adoption and kidnapping of innocent Nigerians simply because we as a people have failed to emulate the reason for the death of Christ.
“Most importantly our leaders at all level shave failed and are never ready to serve as Jesus did but want to be served by the people they lead using public funds for their selfish ambitions and personal aggrandizement.
“As a result, public service officers particularly civil servants are not properly rewarded in terms of salaries,
while pensions and gratuity and even promotions are no longer implemented.
“Security agencies (Police, Army etc) are totally abandoned and being paid peanuts as salaries that
could not put food on the table while our political leaders and various institutional heads are wasting our collective wealth on themselves alone and on some white elephant projects for their satisfaction without direct bearing on the lives of the masses.”
The state CAN chairman therefore enjoined politicians to emulate the virtues of Christ love by serving the people rather than being served.
He added that, “this year’s Good Friday and Easter celebrations, shall grant peace to Rivers State and
Nigeria by giving us the right leaders that will selflessly salvage this country and drastically eliminate poverty and wanton killings of innocent Nigerians in Jesus Mighty Name Amen.”
