Commercial drivers in Rivers State have accused the personnel of the Rivers State Taskforce on Street Trading and Illegal Motor Parks of working with hoodlums to extort money from motorists.
The state Chairman, National Association of Drivers Welfare, Mr. Lekia Isaac told our correspondent that the personnel of the state taskforce now operate without uniform.
He said the personnel of the taskforce have decided to specialize in terrorizing and harassing commercial drivers on a daily basis.
“The state task force personnel are now working with hoodlums within the area they are operating to harass and extort money from commercial drivers.
They don’t put on their vest any longer. What they do now is to disguise themselves and be terrorizing commercial drivers
“The state task force on street trading and illegal motor parks is exceeding its bounds.
“This taskforce is becoming an emperor to the extent it feels it can do anything without being checked, “the chairman noted.
Isaac also mentioned the recent rift his colleagues had with the state taskforce around the Nkpolu axis of the East-West Road.
He described the impounding of his colleagues’ vehicles by the personnel of the state taskforce as illegal and provocative, adding that commercial drivers would no longer tolerate such from the state task force.
