The Civil Society Organisation in Rivers State has urged President Bola Tinubu to call his appointee, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to order. The call came as a result of the growing political tension in the state as well as the recent threat by the minister to put fire in the states of some governors.

The minister, while addressing members of the Peoples Democratic Party during the just concluded state party congress at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt, threatened to put fire in the state of any governor who gets involved in the party structure dispute in Rivers State.

Wike made the threat in reaction to plans by the PDP governors forum to uphold Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the party in Rivers State.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Chairman of CSO in the state, Comrade Ene-faa Georgewill said: “For us as members of civil society organization, we are not really bothered about the internal politics of politicians and their political parties.

More trouble for Fubara, if

“However, we think that public office holders who are members of political parties should know that they are servants of the people and they should therefore measure their words and actions.

“To this end, we think that the political rhetoric of the former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike is unbecoming of a minister and a public servant. “We expect most of the comments and actions of Wike to be rallied around his job as FCT minister and not making inflammatory statements to incite people.

“We think that the actions of Wike are becoming an embarrassment to the Tinubu-led federal government and that the President should call Wike to order.

“Wike has just confirmed that he is the one responsible for the political tension and crisis going on in Rivers State by saying that he is going to put fire in the states of the governors who want to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State.

“For Rivers people, we don’t need this distraction, we want the current governor to be allowed to deliver his agenda for the state. “As a civil society organization, we are calling on Wike to focus on his job as honorable minister of the federal capital territory and stop causing unnecessary political tension in the state.”
