Indications have emerged on Monday night which showed that the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike and the state’s delegates have endorsed the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal as the state’s candidate for the October 6 and 7 Peoples Democratic Party’s, PDP, presidential primaries scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt.
The endorsement which took place at the party’s secretariat comes days after governor Wike threatened to deal with the party should the venue for the primary be moved from Port Harcourt.
Tambuwal is currently in Rivers State to solicit Governor Wike’s support ahead of the party’s presidential primary.
Theportcitynews learnt of the development from government house sources and PDP insiders who informed our correspondent that the decision threw some of the delegates off balance.
According to the sources, the delegates see the Sokoto state governor as a weak candidate whose popularity will be counter-productive and will not match that of President Buhari, especially in the North.
The endorsement also laid to rest speculations over governor Wike’s choice of candidate to fly the party’s flag for the 2019 general elections.
