Unknown gunmen on Sunday evening attacked the B Division of the Nigeria Police Station and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Akwa, Anambra State.
It was gathered that the gunmen came for the attacks in three Hilux trucks at about 9 pm, sparking panic in the area.
Residents who were still on the road while the gunshots ensured were forced to take cover inside the bush.
It was gathered that the gunmen shot into the air for about an hour at the B police station, went to the popular Aroma junction and shot in the air for minutes before moving over to the INEC office.
Casualty figures could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, but thick flames could be seen from videos posted online by residents.
Nwachukwu Orji, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra confirmed the attack. He, however, said he would not comment further on the development as details of the incident were not clear.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, said he was still making contacts to get the correct situation of things around the two federal institutions in the state.
