The leadership of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has come out to say it has not endorse the 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Magnus Abe.
The President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke who made this known during a chat with our correspondent said, “For now, MOSOP is yet to endorse the 2023 governorship ambition of Magnus because there are other sons of Ogoni in the governorship race too.
“The decision to endorse any candidate by MOSOP will come from the steering committee and we do not want the committee to be divided over the endorsement of a particular candidate.
“In the leadership of MOSOP, we have members that are affiliated with several political parties and any move to endorse a particular candidate will cause trouble within the leadership of MOSOP.
“So, the best thing for MOSOP to do is to remain apolitical as it has always been and express its best wishes to all the sons and daughters of Ogoni vying various political positions ahead of the forthcoming general elections.”
Nsuke also urged the federal government to use this year’s November 10 which signifies the remembrance of Ken Saro Wiwa’s death and others to create an Ogoni Development Authority.
The MOSOP president also insisted that no true reconciliation can be achieved until the federal government clears the name of Ken from wrongdoing, adding that Ken was killed innocently.
You recall that since the killing of Ken by the Late Sani Abacha’s military junta, every November 1O is being set aside as Ogoni Martyrs Day to ponder on the supreme sacrifices Ken and others paid in defence of freedom for their people.
