17 oil wells: Ogonis task Wike not to mismanage oil revenue

Ogonis in Rivers State have tasked Governor Nyesom Wike not to mismanage oil revenue of the state.

The advice came days after the Supreme Court ruled on 17 oil wells in favour of Rivers.

The 17 oil wells located in Ndoni and Egbema Communities had been in dispute between Rivers State and Imo State.

The judgment of the apex court also ended the revenue sharing of the oil wells between the two states.

The Justice Olukayode Ariwoola led panel of justices ruled that the oil wells belong to Rivers.

Speaking with our correspondent, the former President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Legborsi Piagbara commended Wike for his legal persistence on the disputed oil wells, which Piagbara said had finally given victory to Rivers.

“Let me first of all commend Governor Wike for his courageous legal fight which has finally given Rivers State the verdict to own the 17 oil wells.

“It means that the oil revenue for Rivers will increase which is a big economic gain to Rivers.

“It is therefore necessary to advise that the revenue should not be mismanaged.

The revenue should be used to develop Rivers State and Rivers people not on things of personal political benefits,” he said.
