Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt has congratulated the Nigeria Football Federation and the Super Eagles for their qualification to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON finals in Cameroon.

Rivers United also commended the NFF for the role it played in the Eagles qualification for 2019 AFCON.

The Eagles drew 1-1 with South Africa’s senior men’s national team, the Bafana Bafana on Saturday in Johannesburg to book a ticket for the 2019 AFCON finals with one game to spare.

The team will play their last group E match of the 2019 AFCON qualifying series at home against Seychelles in March 2019.

Speaking on behalf of the club, General Manager of Rivers United FC, Chief Dr Okey Kpalukwu described the feat as one worthy of commendation.

“Let me use this opportunity to congratulate the Executive Committee of the NFF ably led by Amaju Melvin Pinnick for the thoroughly professional manner in which the (2019 AFCON) qualification process was handled,” he said.

“This is the first time since 2013 that the Super Eagles have qualified for the AFCON and it was done in style with one game to spare.

“I also want to, on behalf of the Rivers United FC family, charge the Super Eagles not to rest on their laurels, but strive to give the country creditable representation at the AFCON,” he concluded.

Recall that the Super Eagles did not take part in the last two editions of the Nations Cup in 2015 and 2017 after they failed to qualify for the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have returned to their training base in Asaba ahead of their international friendly against Uganda tomorrow.
