Ghana Must Go: How Comoros dumped Ghana out of 2021 AFCON

Four-time African Champions Ghana were dumped out of the ongoing 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon after losing to debutants Comoros.

The Island Nation put up a spirited display to beat continental heavyweight Ghana three two in their last group c match.

The victory is Comoros’ first-ever win at the Nations Cup finals.

El Fardou Ben Nabouhane put the islanders ahead early on, and Ghana then went down to 10 men when Andre Ayew was shown a straight red card.

Ahmed Mogni doubled the lead before the Black Stars fought back to make it 2-2.

However, Mogni tapped in his second in the 85th minute to inflict Ghana’s first group-stage exit since 2006.

The result in Group C will go down as one of the biggest shocks in Nations Cup history as Comoros scored at the finals for the first time and then went on to record their maiden victory.

Incredibly, the side ranked 132nd in the world now has a chance to reach the knockout stages as one of four best-ranked third-placed sides even though the Coelacanths lost their first two games in Cameroon.

However, Ghanaian fans have expressed disappointment over the humiliating first-round exit as they are calling for the sack of Milovan Rajevac as Black Stars Coach.

The fans who expressed their anger on Twitter said the coach doesn’t have the tactical abilities to lead Ghana to the promised land.

According to the fans, they said that the Black Stars have been on a steady decline at the Nations Cup since 2015 where they lost to Ivory Coast on a penalty shoot-out in the final.

In 2017, the Black Stars lost to eventual champions Cameroon in the semi-finals of the tournament while in 2019 Ghana were eliminated by Tunisia in the Round of 16 stage of the competition.

In the meantime, Comoros will wait to see if their three points will enable them to reach the knockout phase as one of the best third-place teams.
