The Super Falcons of Nigeria have booked their place in the semi-final of the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations AWCON in Ghana after thrashing two-time champions Equatorial Guinea six-nill in their last group match of the competition.
The Super Falcons finished second in group B with six points after three matches to join group winners South Africa who finished the group with seven points in the semi-finals.
The defending champions of the competition, the Super Falcons will now face group A winners Cameroon in the first semi-final on Tuesday in Accra, Ghana.
The match will be a repeat of the 2016 finals where Nigeria defeated host Cameroon one nil to win the title for the eight-time.
A victory for the Super Falcons on Tuesday will automatically give them a ticket to the 2019 FIFA Women’s world cup in France.
Cameroon, on the other hand, were surprised winners of group A which has host country Ghana failing to reach the last four of the competition.
The Lionesses will be looking forward to revenging their 2016 final zero-one loss at home to the Super Falcons.
In the other semi-final clash on Tuesday, South Africa will face Mali who finished as runners-up in group A at the Cape Coast stadium, Ghana.
The 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations serves as qualifiers for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
The first three nations in the tournament will qualify for the 2019 World fiesta.
