Rivers United Quiets The Noisy Lagosians 4-1

Port Harcourt based football team, Rivers United have beaten Lagos Titans Sporting Lagos 4 goals to 1 at the Adokiye Amesiamaka Stadium Port Harcourt , Rivers State on Sunday the 27th of May 2024.

The match day 33 of the Nigerian Premier Football League was Star packed, but the standout fixture for Lagosians and Riverine was the Rivers United versus Sporting Lagos fixture.

Deputy Echeta received his LBA award for the the Best goal in April before kickoff.

The Game had an eventful buildup toward the match day on Social media platform X as Rivers United Ultra parody account Pride Of Rivers was bantered by Lagos based Pundit Lekan Omoboye during Rivers United’s Losing streak, which let to the latter inviting the former to the Adokiye Slaughter party.

This was a revenge mission as the Noisy Lagosians edged the Pride of Rivers 1 nil in the reverse fixture at the Mogbaji Johnson Arena in February.

The first 20 minutes of the match was spectacular, but the opener came via Samuel Antwi through a Sadiq Abubakar’s assist in the 26th  minute, but the euphoria turned Sour in 44th minutes as The Noisy Lagosians equalized through Michael Tochukwu who scored via a Penalty kick, caused by Emmanuel Ampiah.

At the beginning of the second half “The Ironman “ Andrew Okpe restored Rivers United’s lead through a penalty kick. In the 69th minutes Andrew Okpe doubled his money by capitalizing  on the Sporting Lagos keeper’s howler to score a goal of the season contender.

In the 79th minute boy wonder seiyefa Jackson made his debut. The 17 year old wonder kid who has won the U17 NPFL and the U17 League golden boot needed just 6 minutes to find the back of the net via a Sadiq Abubakar’s Cross. The youngster has been hailed to be the next big team out of Rivers United.

Rivers United now shift their focus to Wednesday as they travel to the FCT to face Sunshine Stars of Akure in the President Presidential Cup tie for a place in the Quarter finals.

It can now be said that Sporting Lagos came to Rivers State four one reason.
