The Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Amb. Desmond Akawor said it is not true that the state government eased the lockdown because of the swearing-in ceremony of the new PDP leadership.
Amb. Akawor also said it is not true that PDP held Thanksgiving on Sunday.
He stated this while granting an interview in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The state PDP chairman said Governor Nyesom Wike is a man who cared about the welfare of the people, explaining that the lockdown was eased to enable Rivers people and other residents to restock their foodstuff.
The former Nigeria ambassador to South Korea said the rumour was the handwork of those who do not mean well for the state and called for a change of heart.
“There’s no Thanksgiving service anywhere! There was no Thanksgiving service and the PDP swearing-in ceremony inauguration has nothing to do with the lockdown, the lockdown came after his excellency had his security meeting and in their meeting, they considered it necessary to allow people to restock their stocks”
He described the governor as a major stakeholder of the PDP and stated the performance of the PDP government in the state as 98%.
Amb. Akawo said the task of his leadership will be built on the legacy of the immediate past chairman, Felix Obuah while attaching priority to the reconciliation of the aggrieved members who left the party on what he called expedition to other parties.
He emphasized that PDP in the state was strong, united and ready to deliver on its core mandate, pointing out that the welfare of the people remains the scenario of the PDP manifesto.
Amb. Akawo who is also the chairman of the state committee on the distribution of palliatives explained that his committee evenly distributed palliatives to all wards of the 23 local government areas of the state, contrary to the rumour that some people were short-changed.
He insisted that the committee comprise of credible individuals with an unquestionable track record and will not be involved in the shabby deal.
