Those trying to cause division in PDP will be disappointed – Ayu

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has said that those trying to cause division in the party would be disappointed.

This is amid the crisis rocking the party in recent times, following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

Recall that some PDP chieftains including Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike have been calling for Ayu’s removal as national chairman, following Atiku’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate.

Wike and others argued that the PDP’s presidential candidate and the national chairman cannot come from the same region.

Ayu, who spoke in Bauchi yesterday, while receiving thousands of defectors, said some people were trying to undermine the party’s efforts to emerge victorious in 2023.

Ayu said, ”There are enemies of the party who are determined to cause division among us by uttering all sorts of lies against us. I want to tell you that they will be disappointed because at the end of the day, members of this party will come out en masse and vote.

“All our National Assembly, governorship candidates will come back to the office. Having stayed out of power for eight years, the PDP will be returned to power.”

The national chairman also claimed that former Vice President Abubakar was chosen by God to be the next President of Nigeria and unify the country.

According to him, the emergence of Atiku as president would ensure solutions to the challenges bedeviling Nigeria while assuring the defectors that they would enjoy a level-playing field within the PDP.

Those present at the meeting include Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who played as host; Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa among others.
