The Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned for hearing, the case of motion exparte filed by Okorigwe Jason and other aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress APC, against the judgement delivered by Justice George Omereji of the Rivers State High Court on 9th June 2020.

The Appellants in suit number CA/PH/122M/20 are seeking for leave to appeal as persons having an interest in the judgement of High Court.

According to the Appellants, the judgement of Justice Omereji will affect and stop them from participating in the forthcoming APC Congress in the state, as they have initially bought forms in December 2019, when the Party ordered for Congress that was later aborted.

The three-man panel led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, after listening to Counsels in the matter asked all the parties to file their counter affidavit and reply, prepare their written addresses and file the same within twenty-four hours.

The Court adjourned the matter to 13th of July, 2020, for hearing.

In an interview with our correspondent Tina Amanda, Counsel to the Appellants, Emenike Ebete said the Appellants are seeking for an order of accelerated hearing of the application filed.

“Two members of APC, Okorigwe Jason Obi and Anor bought forms and by the judgement of Justice Omereji which read that only members who bought forms in May 2018 will contest in the election, those who bought forms in December 2019 said they will be affected by the judgement and came to appeal the ruling”

Recall that the Judgement delivered on 9th June 2020, by Justice George Omereji, said only Party members who bought forms in May 2018, are eligible to participate in the coming APC election.
