As Nigerian masses continue to brood over the now widely reported manipulation of the February 25 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its collaborators, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council (PDP), Rivers State Chapter, has alerted citizens of the state of another plot to rig the governorship election coming up on March 11, 2023.
The council has, therefore, urged Rivers citizens to come out en masse to vote and be ready to defend their votes at all costs by resisting every form of malpractice that day.
The spokesman of the council, Lenonu Nwibubasa, made this call during an interview with 92.3 FM in Port Harcourt on Friday morning, which was monitored by TPCN.
Nwibubasa said it is only by defending their votes that the Rivers electorate can stop another manipulation of election results on Saturday, March 11, 2023.
“We’re saying that the umpire (INEC) is already biased. We have seen that the umpire is the highest bidder. “Except the people resist with their lives; except the people defend their votes, we will only see a repeat of the drama because those who rigged the election will only perfect their act,” he said.
Condemning INEC’s complicity in the rigging of the just concluded presidential election, the Rivers PDP Presidential Campaign Council spokesman said despite the electoral umpire’s failure, the Rivers electorate still voted according to their conscience.
He expressed disappointment that the will of the people was subverted at the end of the day, a development he described as a show of shame.
Nwibubasa noted: “Though INEC failed us by not delivering election materials to the various polling units on time, those who voted, voted according to their conscience. It is clear that the will of the people was subverted at the collation centre.
“What we now see in Rivers State is a complete show of shame. It is complete disregard for the will of the people.”
He wondered how the same PDP that worked against its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in last Saturday’s election in the state would call on the entire members of the party to vote for their governorship candidate, Siminalayi Fubara, in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
“For Saturday 11th of March for the governorship election, I do not see where the same PDP that worked against their own presidential candidate is calling on the rest of the PDP to vote Sim Fubara. Rivers people understand who rigged their votes,” he said while calling on the Rivers electorate to use the forthcoming governorship election to pay back those who rigged the last presidential polls.
