Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi has debunked claims that he won the election in Lagos because of Igbo votes.
Obi said few Igbos live in Lagos, stressing that more indigenes voted for him in Lagos than people considered as visitors.
Speaking on Arise TV Morning Show, the former Anambra State Governor said he won more than 50 percent of the vote cast in Rivers despite governor Nyesom Wike working against him.
He said ” More indigenes voted for me in Lagos than those you can call visitors. Are Igbos in Nassarawa, Abuja and Plateau where I won? I won in Aso Rock. Would you say it is rigging? Which machinery do I have to rig? I have no LG chairman, I don’t know any DPO.
“In Rivers where you know that the governor came out against me if the real votes of Rivers were counted, I won more than 50 percent while the other parties shared the rest”
Obi also described the 2023 election as the worst in Nigeria. According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC disregarded the 2022 electoral act by refusing to transmit the results electronically as was provided by law.
He, however, called for calm, saying he would explore all legal processes to reclaim his Mandate.
