The Coalition of Political Parties (CUPP) has condemned in strong terms, moves by the Nigerian Police to seal up the Eagles Square, Abuja, preventing the use of the venue for the planned declaration of former Kano State Governor, and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, for President ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The event has been billed to hold at the Eagles’ Square by 10am on Wednesday.
According to documents made available to INDEPENDENT, the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the political platform of Senator Kwankwaso, had paid for the use of the venue on the said date.
In a press release signed by Spokesperson of Coalition of Political Parties (CUPP), Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government’s “culture of intimidation and impunity”
stop “cannot stop us from serving Buhari his well-deserved electoral defeat come 2019”, the Coalition said.
The CUPP Spokesperson also stated that “attempts to block the venue of the declaration billed to hold at Eagle Square shall be resisted as the venue was fully paid and approved for the event.”
