Members of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD), University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), have reportedly protested the killing of a colleague by unknown assailants.
It was gathered that the victim, identified as Otote Osaikhuomwan who was of the Department of Ophthalmology was reportedly killed on Monday at his residence in the Ugbor area of Benin.
The assailants were said to have gone straight into his apartment and shot him in the chest in the presence of his pregnant wife before carting away with some items.
Commenting on the incident, the President of Edo NARD, Elamah Ikpemimoghena said the death of Osaikhuomwan came as a shock to the association.
He maintained that insecurity has been one of the reasons responsible for the brain drain in the country.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Bello Kontongs said the police division with the district of the incident had commenced an investigation.
Kontongs said the division would transfer its preliminary findings to the state command at the close of the investigation.
