Two female students of Adesuwa Secondary School, Benin, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a teacher over the disciplinary measures meted on them by the teacher.
It was gathered that the suspects were arrested by men of the Edo State Police Command following unrest caused in the school by the development.
Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said preliminary investigation revealed that “the students were dissatisfied with disciplinary measures taken by a female teacher in the school against some students during an English Language class.”
Nwabuzor said that the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, has assured the citizens, particularly parents and guardians of students at the school, that there was no cause for alarm as normalcy had been restored to the school.
“He advised parents and guardians of those students to submit their children and wards who were involved in the agitation,” the statement added.
The police spokesman also noted that CP has directed the transfer of the case file to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Benin, on the conclusion of the preliminary investigation for further investigation.
