Police rescue 13 kidnapped victims in Delta, kill suspect

The Delta State Police Command says it has rescued thirteen victims after some kidnappers hijacked a 14-seater bus in the state.

A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe said the bus with reg no M831-FJK was intercepted on Sunday after it was hijacked along Aniagbala Community via Ubulu-uku express road in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the State.

It was gathered that the bus was conveying sixteen occupants out of which thirteen passengers were kidnapped and taken into the bush.

Edafe said immediately the Command received information about the attack, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali directed the DPO Ogwashi-Uku Division to lead men into the bush and ensure that the victims were rescued unhurt and also arrest the suspects.

He explained that a combined team of Police operatives and Vigilantes went into the bush and gave the hoodlums a hot chase which led to an exchange of gunfire.

According to the statement, one of the suspects, who was hit during the duel died on the spot while the other members of the gang escaped with bullet injuries, while all thirteen kidnapped persons were rescued alive and unhurt with one AK47 rifle recovered.

The Police Spokesperson noted that the bush is still being combed to arrest the other fleeing members of the gang.
