The Police in Delta State has arrested a fifty-eight-year-old suspected gun manufacturer, Peter Okolie in Emuhu community, Ika North East Local Government Area of the State.
The suspect, including nine others were apprehended by men of the Anti-Cult Unit, SACU led by SP Christopher Igbaji of the State Police Command.
A statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, said the arrest was based on credible intelligence received by the Command of a syndicate specialized in manufacturing locally made guns.
Edafe noted that Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali directed the SACU team which carried out intensive raids on criminal hideouts in the area and arrested the suspects.
The Police said items recovered from the suspects include 42 locally made single barrel guns, six double barrel guns, three pump action guns, two filing machines, and a toolbox containing fabricated materials and working tools.
The spokesperson noted that the “the exhibits were in custody and an investigation is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has commended the team for the successful operation and also assured residents in the State that the Command will not relent in the fight against crime and criminality.
“He advised all to continue to partner with the Command by giving useful, timely and credible information that will help the Command to nip crime in the bud,” the statement added.
