Truck kills four in Benin

No fewer than four persons have lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on Tuesday involving a truck and two mini-buses in Sokponba Road by Ogbelaka Junction, Benin, the Edo State capital.

According to eyewitnesses, about nine persons died in the accident which occurred, when a truck conveying sand suffered a brake failure and rammed into two commercial buses.

It was gathered that the truck driver, in an attempt to overtake another truck, lost control of his vehicle, ramming into the mini-buses.

Bodies of the victims were deposited in a morgue, while the injured passengers were rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a nearby hospital.

Commuters were seen trekking to their destinations as a result of the gridlock caused by the development as Police operatives and members of vigilance groups were at the scene to restore normalcy.

However, Police spokesman, Bello Kontongs disclosed that four persons died in the accident.

According to Kontongs, “It involved a truck coming from Upper Sakponba that lost control and ran into a white bus, killing three people on the spot, while one died on the way to the hospital.

“The injured victims have been rushed to the hospital for treatment”.
