The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, made significant inroads into Sokoto State house of assembly by amassing a record of 14 members.
For the Sokoto 9th Assembly, out of 30 seats that were contested for, the All Progressives Congress secured 16 while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 14 seats.
Daily Trust reports that, for the existing members of the 8th Assembly, there are 19 PDP members, of whom 10 lost their seats, one lawmaker –
Speaker Salihu Maidaji who represents Gada east constituency – did not contest and eight returned. Maidaji had gunned for the Sokoto east senatorial contest but lost to the incumbent Senator Ibrahim Gobir of APC.
Also, 11 members of the APC who are in the 8th Assembly had six members who returned while five others lost their seats.
