Benue killings: We’ll ensure security, justice – Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki yesterday assured the people of Benue State of adequate security to end killings in parts of the state.

Also, he promised that the senate would ensure justice over the killings of rural dwellers in the state.

Saraki spoke yesterday during his visit to the Abagana Internally Displaced Peoples’ (IDPs) camp at the outskirt of Makurdi where he celebrated the Children’s Day with displaced kids.
“I want to assure you as Senate President that my colleagues and I will not stop until the day we provide enough security for you in Benue State. We will also ensure that you get justice,” he said.
The senate president added that the future and wellbeing of the Nigerian children, especially those at the IDP camps in various states, was paramount to the country, stressing that it is the responsibility of leaders to work out bright future for all the children.
Saraki said they have asked security chiefs during a meeting last week to place their demand for enough funding to nib the killings in the bud.
The senate president however expressed worry that whatever affects Benue, would by extension affect the entire North Central and the country at large as he intimated that he would also visit Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba and Borno states for similar purposes.
Earlier, Governor Samuel Ortom, told the senate president, that it was the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore who gave the crisis in the state an ethnic coloration when they declared a jihad and also claimed that they owned the Benue valley.
Ortom insisted that justice must be done for the Benue people because they know their killers who are yet to be apprehended by the law enforcement agencies, despite making their threats reality since January 1, this year.
