A fatal accident involving a tanker occurred in Ekerawhen Junction located at the East-West Road, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to a source, the accident was caused by some soldiers who were stationed at an army checkpoint in Ekerawhen Junction located at the East-West Road, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The accident which occurred on Saturday night was said to have claimed the lives of over ten persons and destroyed over five cars.
According to an anonymous source, the soldiers tried to stop an oncoming truck laden with petrol, but the driver was adamant and in the process lost control of the vehicle. The product he was carrying, spilled as the tanker fell to the ground. Fire broke out and gulped other vehicles at the scene including passengers inside.
In the words of the source: “the fuel tanker driver lost control in an attempt to outrun the soldiers, who were trying to stop him during a downpour.”
“The content of the tanker spilled on the ground, leading to the fire which burnt the cars and the people inside.”
Efforts to save the passengers were futile as the fire could not be controlled.
