Man stabs cousin to death over roofing sheets in Rivers

A 20- year-old man has been arrested for stabbing his cousin to death in the Duburo community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The suspect, identified as Promise Gabriel, allegedly stabbed the victim, Kopapa Neete, on Sunday during an argument over roofing sheets.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in the community, Mr Vincent Gbosi said the deceased had bought some roofing sheets to fix his house.

However, the roofing sheets were allegedly stolen by Gabriel, his cousin.

According to the Gbosi, the suspect tampered with the zinc by removing some of them after the deceased had left the house.

“Neete on arrival, noticed that some of his roofing sheets were missing; he got angry and started accusing his younger cousin, Gabriel, of stealing his hard-earned savings.

“But, he in return stabbed Neete, and he died instantly,” the chairman said.

The suspect, who had fled the community after committing the crime, was apprehended on Monday night with other members of his gang, by men of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency in collaboration with Duburo Community youths.
