The Imo State Command has alleged that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were responsible for the attack on traditional rulers in Njaba local government of the state.
This was disclosed on Wednesday in Owerri by the State Police commissioner, CP Rabiu Husseini, who vowed to track down the perpetrators of the attack.
According to him, “Following information received yesterday at about 1500 hours, that hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN members are attacking the venue where the transitional chairman of Njaba local government was holding a meeting with some transitional rulers. ”
Husseini explained that the command had immediately deployed tactical teams including the Special Forces, Rapid Response Squad and Anti-Kidnapping Squad to the scene.
He noted that two monarchs had already died from sustained injuries on arrival while the ruler of Nkume Autonomous Community, Eze A. N Onyeka (JP), suffered a gunshot wound.
The CP said, “It is on record that the police station in Njaba was recently attacked and raised down by hoodlums suspected to be IPOB/ ESN terror groups, where two police officers lost their lives. Thus, the command had to post Policemen to the area on vehicular patrols to help in checkmating crimes and criminality. Pending when a new police station will be rebuilt.”
While consoling the families of those who lost their lives, the CP assured citizens of the command’s commitments to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the crime.
