Ijaw youths have warned the Federal Government over possible attacks in Niger Delta if they continue to treat the region and their freedom fighter, Tompolo with contempt.
Youths from the nine states of the region converged in Warri, Delta State, on Monday to celebrate the 50th birthday of High Chief Government Ekpemukpolo, aka Tompolo.
According to them, it is disrespectful for the Federal Government and the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to continue to neglect court ruling and uphold seizure of Tompolo’s assets, when he has been vindicated and acquitted by the court.
In a statement issued by the spokesman of the council, comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, he said:
“If not for the steps the stakeholders of the region have taken to maintain peace, security and stability, the Niger Delta would have imploded and bled the economy of the country by now. We are gradually getting to that crescendo level if steps are not urgently taken to address the demands of the people by the Federal Government…”
The council further described Tompolo as a freedom fighter and role model to youths in the region.
