Up to nine people – including children – have reportedly been killed in a school shooting in the Russian city of Kazan.
Children were seen jumping out of windows to escape the attack which local media said was carried out by two gunmen. An explosion was also reported.
One 15-year-old said: ‘They took us out. First they told us to lock ourselves in the room, we locked ourselves in.
‘Then a strong explosion thundered, and in a minute the shooting began.’
An unconfirmed report said that nine were killed including two 14-year-old boys. Ten more were injured, According to DailyMail.
Two armed males had entered the school number 175 and started shooting, reported Mash media.
One of the attackers is reported to have killed seven eighth-graders – aged 13 to 14 – and a teacher.
When he was detained, he said that he had planted a bomb at the place he lives.
One of the gunmen was seen being overpowered by officers on the steps of the school on Faizi Street in Kazan, a mainly Muslim city.
Another remained in the school, said reports.
Later it was reported the second attackers had been detained by police on the fourth floor of the school.
Interfax was told that a student carried a weapon to school and injured classmates.
Firefighters used ladders to evacuate children from the upper windows of the school building as a large crowd gathered outside the gates, including worried parents.
Dozens of emergency vehicles lined the road outside the school, including members of the security forces.
