Fire guts police headquarters in Asaba

Delta State Police Headquarters, Asaba on Thursday was gutted by fire.

Reports disclosed that the incident was caused by an electrical mishap which occurred at the Command’s control room, damaging some gadgets and part of the building.

In a statement released by the state’s Police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, confirming the incident, disclosed that fire broke out at the command’s control engine room at about 2:45 pm on Thursday.

“The command wishes to state that the fire outbreak affected only a part of the control room. Fire service was called immediately, and their timely intervention saved the situation.

“Presently, fire has been put out. Cause of the fire incident not yet known but suspected to be a result of an electrical spark from the communication engine room.

“Meanwhile, the investigation into the incident has commenced.

“The Commissioner of Police urge members of the public to ignore any rumour contrary to the actual fact stated above.”

Sources disclosed that some daring police officers made efforts to salvage some vital documents from the unit.
