Some leaders of waterfront communities in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State have mocked politicians who are victims of kidnap, maintaining that politicians embezzle monies meant for security vote a lot.
One of the waterfront community leaders and former candidate of the Social Democratic Part for Rivers Assembly in the 2019 election, Sam Ateke accused politicians for the hike in insecurity.
Sam Ateke who also pleaded with the abductors of the Chairman of the Okrika Local Government Council, Philemon Kingoli to release him unconditionally warned politicians to stop stealing public funds.
According to him, “our politicians should have conscience when entrusted with public funds, knowing that they will one day account for every public fund they spend.
“Some of these kidnappers are the thugs politicians used during elections and abandoned, after arming them.
“Insecurity should have been reducing in our country and state if politicians who are entrusted with our common wealth are doing the right thing.”
Another leader and Financial Secretary of Belema Polo in Port Harcourt, Victor Stephen urged politicians in government to try prioritize the development of their constituencies and people.
“We don’t expect much from politicians but they should at least achieve upto 60 percent development in their area and people with the public resources they are controlling.
“It is sad to note that some of our politicians have blatantly refused to site one project in their constituency.
“The masses are not happy with these days politicians due to the degree of underdevelopment of our communities, “Stephen said.
