Zonal Coordinator of West African Examination Council, WAEC, Port Harcourt, Gershon Dandak, says the council is ready to conduct a hitch-free 2019 WACE examination in Rivers state.
Dandak who disclosed this during a briefing exercise for the supervisors selected to conduct the 2019 WASSCE in the state, said registration for this year’s WASSCE has closed as examination will commence from the 8th April to June 6th.
According to him, the supervisors were selected after thorough screening was carried out, adding that the scrabbling by none qualified persons to supervise WAEC examination has drastically reduced.
He advised them not to get involved in any malpractice which will get them blacklisted as legal actions will be taken against any supervisor found wanting.
“Examination malpractice does not help anybody. It is a serious problem for us as a nation, we are expecting all the supervisors to go out there and do the job the way we have asked them to do it. They should allow the candidates to write on their own, its an achievement test and all we are interested is to know what they have learnt, it’s a very simple exam that every child determined can pass, all the supervisors we invited have undergone proper screening and we are sure that we have got the best the state can offer‘’
On her part, Director Senior Secondary Ministry of Education, Sokari Davies assured WACE that the selected supervisors will be of their best behaviour during the examination.
“My staff will be of best behaviour, it is on record that Rivers state recorded the least malpractice in the south-south region, its not a rocket science, we have been fighting to reduce the level of malpractice and it is really coming to a zero level and the Governor Wike-led administration has plans to ensure that all students produced in the state can defend their WACE certificate anywhere in the world and that is what we hope to achieve”
