The Rivers state police command has confirmed the death of two police officers and a civilian yesterday during a gun battle with suspected kidnappers along the Woji Alcon road.
The police public relation officer Nnamdi Omoni in an interview with correspondent Racheal Ramson said the incident happened within the hours of 9-10pm last night.
He said the unknown gunmen were trying to kidnap an expatriate who works with Total company.
“It is sad that at this time that we the police force is fighting criminality, people are still perpetrating evil” he said.
The police PRO also said one of the police officers is currently in the hospital receiving treatments hoping that when he recovers he will give more information.
Meanwhile some eyewitness narrated the ordeal.
They said the unknown gunmen shot sporadically not minding who and who were around the area.
” Na so I run as I hear the gunshots”.
While some others said it seems like a movie but so real…in fact like a horror film.
They, therefore, called on the Rivers state government to make security topmost in the administration’s lifetime.
“Insecurity should be topmost priority in this administration because everybody is scared, it has been from one bad news to the other in this state and the baffling part of it is that these robbers/kidnappers operate without fear, it is not supposed to be so.”
