The lingering withdrawal of services by
petroleum tanker drivers in Rivers state has been called off by the association, late on Tuesday.
Chairman Petroleum tanker drivers, Port Harcourt refinery, Comrade Lucky Etuoko, disclosed this while fielding questions from theportcitynews.com correspondent Tina Stephen.
According to him, the union is back in operation at the timely intervention of the NNPC, saying that petroleum drivers withdrew their services based on extortion and ill-treatment unleashed on tanker drivers by security agencies.
“The harassment by securities agencies is too much. They beat up tanker drivers who refuse to give them money or petroleum products, especially soldiers and civil defense corp officers.
“The security officers should allow us be. These people they are looking for that load illegal products, they know them. There are no bunkery activities that go on in the state without security agencies not being aware of it. In fact, they give them security and keep victimizing petroleum tanker drivers.”
The chairman urged security agencies to do the needful and arrest illegal petroleum product dealers, stressing that tanker
drivers do not deal on illegal products.
He further advised petroleum tanker drivers to ensure they load from depots licensed by the federal government and Department of petroleum resources (DPR)
