The Rivers State Government has withdrawn another murder charge against the former leader of Rivers State House of Assembly Chidi Lloyd.
The State Government had filed charges against Chidi Lloyd for the alleged attempted murder of a fellow lawmaker, Kelechi Worgu during the crisis that rocked State House of Assembly in 2013.
When the matter came up in court, the Counsel to Rivers State, George Adeyemi presented a letter of discontinuance in the matter.
The Presiding Judge Justice Chinwendu Wogu after hearing the lawyers in the matter struck out the case and discharged Chidi Lloyd.
Addressing newsmen outside the court, George Adeyemi lawyer to the State Government said the Attorney General of the state filed for Nolle Prosequi to discontinue the case.
He said that the Attorney General, Zaccheaus Adangor has the right to perform such duties.
George Adeyemi said that the former leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Chairman Tonye Cole Campaign Organization has been discharged by the court after the court struck out the case.
In his comment, Prince Azunda, lawyer to Chidi Lloyd asked the State Government not to bring another affliction upon his client after withdrawing the case.
He said that his client, Chidi Lloyd has the right to express his fundamental human rights and freedom of expression and hoped the State Government will not deny him that again by pressing unnecessary charges in the future.
Our correspondent reports that the State Government had earlier withdrawn two charges against Chidi Lloyd bothering on attempted murder charges of Micheal Chinda and the destruction of the Mace.
