A member of the Diobu Vigilante Group in Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt, Clinton Okedi, has accused the Public Relations Officer of Diobu Vigilante, Charles Ogire, of assault and threat to his life.

Okedi alleged that Ogire attempted to shoot him for his refusal to support the PRO’s political ambition in the forthcoming 2023 general election.

In an interview with our Correspondent, Okedi disclosed that Ogire has been threatening and chasing him around with a gun.

“My name is Clinton Okedi, a member of Diobu Vigilante; I am working under Charles Ogire he is the CSO Umuduru/ Odunze commander Camp seven (7), and PRO Diobu Vigilante.

“Sometime in September last year, the PRO gathered us and said we are going with him to see Farah Dagogo; I told him I would not follow him. They went and came back, and two days later, he gathered us again that we should go with him to Elekahia to do voter’s card for one Jennifer who is contesting for House of Representatives, I told him I would not go, and he asked me why am refusing to follow them, I told him as security personnel we are not supposed to take sides in Politics.

“On 3rd February 2023, I was at home when Charles Ogire bounced on my door and barged in; he brought out a gun shouting that I am dodging him.

“He ordered me to follow him at gunpoint, I gave him my hands, and he handcuffed me. When I looked, no Police came with him, but only three boys followed him, as I shouted what did I do to you, I ran with the handcuff and entered a plaza from there he bundled me to the Police station.

“At the station, before I knew what was happening, I saw someone claiming his things got missing; Nkpolu Police Division Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt, looked into the matter and discovered I did nothing; they granted me bail.

“Since then, nobody called me again that I did anything wrong, so I continued my work normally. As I returned from work this morning, my younger brother told me that Charles Ogire, the PRO of Diobu Vigilante, stormed the house again during the early hours with a gun, looking for me.

“My brother said on discovering I was not the one, he inquired my whereabouts, and my brother told him that I was not yet back from work, and he left.

Okedi, however, called on the Nigerian Police and Rivers State Government to retrieve the gun Charles Ogire is allegedly using to chase him around.

“I am calling on Rivers State Government and Police to help me because Charles Ogire is using a gun to look for me. I do not know who gave him a gun, and I do not know who gave him a handcuff.

“Even when he arrested me and took me to the Police station, the DCO asked him who handcuffed me, and he could not say anything. He then removed the handcuff and put it in his pocket then I knew it was a private handcuff.

“So I want Rivers State Government to help me retrieve the gun and handcuff from Charles,” he added.

Reacting to the claims by Clinton Okedi, the Diobu Vigilante PRO Charles Ogire, in a phone interview with our correspondent, refuted the claims why calling on Okedi to arrest him if he feels he is chasing him around with a gun.

The PRO further said that Okedi should leave his duty post as he has been sacked and no longer works for him, claiming that Clinton Okedi threatens his security job.

Recall the Commissioner of Police, CP Effiong Okon, two weeks ago reiterated the ban barring vigilantes from using guns in Rivers State.
