Men said to be officials of the Rivers State TaskForce on Monday allegedly vandalized at least 36 cars at the slaughter Market, Woji Port Harcourt.
The raid was said to have been carried out with the aid of Police officers attached to team.
Some drivers who spoke to theportcitynews said some of their colleagues sustained machete cuts.
The taskforce was set up by the Rivers State Government to tackle the growing trend of street trading and illegal motor parks in select local government areas of the state.
However, personnel of the Task Force have been accused of using brute force on defaulters, including machetes.
Others alleged that the task force in cohort with the police lock up defaulters at police stations even though they have no power to do so.
Some of the cars vandalised at slaughter were privately owned vehicles and commercial vehicles.
They were also accused of killing 10 goats, while three drivers were left with machetes cuts.
According to an eye witness, he said ” The chief of the task force and his boys were seen with machetes which they used to vandalized vehicles that were parked on the road” but he denied that they never vandalized properties or attacked anyone.
The latest development has caused uproar on social media with residents calling for the disbandment of the group.
