Rivers State to be polio-free in October – RSTPHMB

The Rivers State Primary Health Management Board on Friday flagged off the 2019 Polio Immunization campaign at the state primary health management board office at waterlines in Port Harcourt.

Addressing pressmen at the state board office, Dr Amon Joseph Urang, the State Coordinator, Rivers State Immunization Office, said that the polio Immunization campaign which commenced on Saturday the 20th will end on Tuesday the 23rd of July in all the local government areas in the state.

He said that the target for polio Immunization are children from age 0-59 months (0-5yrs old).

Dr Joseph said that every vaccine needed for the campaign is already at the local government and wards, adding that every logistic issue required to disseminate vaccines to both Riverine and upland areas of the state have been settled.

He said that 1893 personnel expected to go from house to house to administer the vaccines are already on ground in all of the local government, also about 808 speculated personnel and 400plus fixed teams are also on ground to ensure a successful vaccination this year.

He used the medium to urge all caregivers/ parents to avail their children for the Immunization.

He also encouraged parents to continue sending their children for vaccine-preventable diseases after the polio Immunization. He said that the vaccine is to help immunize children against vaccine-preventable diseases.

He said that Rivers State will be certified polio-free in the next three months. He added that polio Immunization campaign is nationwide and therefore advised parents to avail their children for polio vaccination.
