The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command Okon Effiong has charged officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Rivers State to see themselves and the Nigeria Police Force as brothers of the same Parent.

CP Effiong Okon said this during a courtesy visit to the State Headquarters of the NSCDC in Port Harcourt.

He also called for Inter-Agency collaborations and up-to-date Intelligence sharing to enhance the Security architecture of the State.
” It is very important for me to acquaint you with the fact that the Nigeria Police remains the lead agency in Internal Security across the nation but the Police cannot do it alone as Security is a matter of collective responsibility; the NSCDC has been and will continue to be a critical stakeholder and we must collaborate with the Military and other Paramilitary outfits to ensure that the primary purpose of creating each of the Agencies be fully accomplished without hesitations’.

” I have come with the message that we have a Father which is Nigeria and the goal this nation today is: Sustaining both territorial and internal security, protection of lives and property of citizens, prevention of crimes as well as ensuring a conducive environment for our people in the 2023 General Election”.

In his remarks, the Commandant of NSCDC in Rivers State Michael Ogar affirmed that effective collaboration is a panacea to combating crime and criminalities in the State.

He further reiterated the Command’s readiness to work closely with the Nigeria Police to provide adequate security for the people of Rivers State.

Commandant Ogar said the NSCDC in Rivers State has not relented in carrying out the Corps Mandate in Safeguarding all Critical National Assets and Infrastructures, Disaster Management through proactive warning against the occurrence of disasters and rescuing of victims during emergencies; Training, Supervision, and Monitoring of Private Guard Companies, Intelligence gathering amongst others.

He however issued a stern warning that “any NSCDC personnel caught engaging in Inter-Agency rift or infractions would be dealt with decisively”.
