Sergeant Bitrus Osaiah, the police officer attached to the Rivers State Government Task Force on street trading and illegal motor parks who shot dead a female colleague, Lavender Elekwachi, in Eneka area of Obio-Akpor Local Government has been dismissed from the force.
The Rivers State Police Command also announced the withdrawal of its men from the state’s Taskforce operations.
DSP Omoni Nnamdi, the spokesman of the command disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
Omoni stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, disclosed the officer’s dismissal during a condolence visit to the family of Elekwachi in Ozuzu, Etche Local Government Area.
CP Mukan said Osaiah was sacked after the conclusion of the investigation and orderly room trial, adding that he would soon be arraigned and prosecuted.
He stressed that the rights of the citizens of the state would be protected under his administration.
The commissioner, however, said the police force was deeply touched by the untimely death of the female officer, praying to God Almighty to grant her soul eternal rest.
